McKay’s altered Polaroid SX-70 images were created from 1987-1992.

Altered Images are made in limited editions of 25, range in size from 11x11, 20x20 and 30x30 inches, and are mounted and matted. They are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, signed by the artist.

Glenn began to experiment with altering SX-70 Polaroid film. He immediately realized he had a new medium. Just as the Lightshows had earlier been the solution to what had seemed an impossible creative need to capture color in its purest form, the altered Polaroid now became a direct bridge between the external reality experienced by others and his own unique internal vision.

By manipulating the envelope of chemicals that form the Polaroid SX-70 images he was able to meld modern technology and classical techniques of drawing to create a dramatic new visual language. Once more he had found a 20th Century technology that he could transform by the intervention of his creative vision. But this time he could carry his whole studio in a shoulder bag!

The critical acclaim of his many exhibitions of SX-70 photo impressions is confirmation of how successful he has been in melding this technology with his personal vision. They have won a number of awards in many one-man and group shows throughout the U.S. and Canada, and are in may permanent museum and private collections.
